I found a mustard colored coat and dress combo from the 60's, but I can't find any information on the label. Marie Phillips Original, was this an actual designer, or just a company name? What time period were the fashions made? Thanks for the help :D

Hi! I just stumbled on this thread looking for more information on my family. My Grandfather's family (Carmella "Minnie" Pricone and Frank Rametta) owned the Marie Philips dress Company in Hartford CT and the whole family worked there. I even have my grandfather's shears that he used to cut large bolts of fabric. To my understanding they both designed and manufactured their own designs to Paris, London and New York but I'm still looking for more information on them.

We just received a very nice, excellent condition, red wool suit with rose print blouse from the early/mid 60s with this label. In the past, I have been keeping examples from companies like this - not major players in the fashion industry, but creators of quality ready-to-wear. However, we can't do it anymore because the storage area is reaching max capacity and we are looking at a major deaccessioning to clear space in some areas, the 1960s being one of them as it is disproportionally over-represented. As a small, under-funded museum, we can't give these away - in fact the board has mandated that we have to find more ways to fund the museum so when items we don't keep for the collection are disposed of we have to preferably find ways to find funds from their disposal that can be used to better care for the permanent collection. Problem is, selling things like this is not lucrative anymore because the vintage market is fickle, and the time it takes to offer pieces like this on the market takes too long to make it worthwhile to resell. We lost our donated space at the Toronto Vintage Sales (she decided she could no longer use the tax receipt for the value of the space and we can't afford to pay for the expensive booth, as sales are soft for the kind of vintage we offer, which tends to be this kind of thing - quality ready-to-wear from the 1940s - 1980s, that is not necessarily geared to vintage trends, like workwear, and recent designer pieces.) Anyway, I am just thinking out loud here, because I am not sure what to do when we are offered pieces like this...
