Can you upload a picture of any labels please? If it just says Marks & Spencer rather than St Michael, it's likely to be a recent retro style dress. Have you seen the label resource entry here?

No it says st micheals, i have a picture. sorry nearly called it marks and sparks. Was'nt thonking when i sent in original pictures. Its even got a little hand stiched label in it of its original owner.
thanks what do you think.

That poly knit was used in the 60s & 70's a lot. The intended shape would be clearer if you could get it modelled at all. It looks fairly short; has the hem been taken up at all?

I think it may have been it looks hand stitched it came to just below my daughters knees, and she is about 5ft 8inches tall, on me it comes to way below the knee but i'm only 5ft 1.

That's definitely a 70s label. I'm not at home to check my M&S resources, but I know that having the size in a circle like that, plus having the metric European size, didn't appear on 1960s labels. I believe 1973 or 1974 is when that size circle thing became the norm on St Michael labels, though it did occur earlier.
