I have a vintage wool dress, probably 50s-60s. It’s lined with something that is wonderfully swishy. Anyway, there’s a tag inside it with “WPL 7869” on it. I understand from googling that this number is looked up by the same means an RN is looked up. So I looked it up and discovered “Martha Clyde Inc” at 575 7th St, New York, NY. I can’t find any further information on that name or company and the address is unhelpful. Is there anything else I can try? ...or does anyone know anything about this name/company? There are no other tags or labels in this dress. I can post pics if it makes any difference. Thank you!

It's always helpful to see a picture of a dress to help date it. The address is in the heart of the NYC Garment District. Martha Clyde, Inc. was probably a manufacturer/wholesaler or factory. I just Googled Martha Clyde Inc. Dress and got a '50's eBay listing.

Thanks! It looks very early '60's to me. I checked the Label Resource and it looks like the Union label is the one from 1955-1963. The style, color, length and 3/4 sleeve and neckline look like 1961-1962 to me. I think it would be longer if it were earlier. It's very nice!

Thank you! No, the hat is one I’ve had laying around, waiting for a good match. It doesn’t quite go with this dress but I think it works enough. I wish I had some matching gloves!

Very chic - I think too it looks like early 60s.

I agree with Linn and Midge as it being early 1960's. The color said 60's to me before I read their responses.
