I've been trying to find some information on these pants. I know they were designed for Sportsmen but I can't figure out why the leather on the seat. Also, would like to figure out what era they are from.

I have found information about the Masland company but I can't find much about their clothing line.

I believe generally leather on the seat/legs means clothes for horse riding.

I was wondering if that was it but because the leather is only on the seat, I wasn't sure. The pants have wool knit cuffs at the bottom of the legs - but it appears that moths had a picnic on them. I'm wondering if I should try and fix the holes or leave them as-is. My overall feeling about the pants is they probably aren't worth a whole lot so another thought is to upcycle them. The leather is beautiful and there is enough to make a bag or purse.

Hi katemack. Masland carpets and textiles are out of Carlisle PA where I was born. My great great grandfather was CharlesnMasland, C.H. And several Maslands still live in Carlisle. The family business was carpets and textiles and during the war they made some duck cotton hunting apparel. If you are thinking about selling the pants I'd totally be interested to give a pair to my sister.
