I listed this dress last year a couple of times and again last week. No takers. It is matronly looking, but look at the rhinestone treatment around the collar! It's gorgeous!

I wonder if I should remove the trim (still attached to the fabric) and offer it for sale. Otherwise I will just be donating the dress.

with rhinestones so in i am not sure why it didn't go this time.

i will have to look at the completely auction in order to give any constructive tips, but i would go look up some of those magazine scans with the grannie chic/prim and proper....but i would drop the "matronly"

or totally go all the way with it for a really bold lady..show with rhinestone earrings, and the whole thing..

OR i would probably think of i think of it with a mink or faux wrap...some really hot momma high heeled boots...maybe fishnets or stockings..

could you pin it in a little to show how it might look like with a simple black velvet belt ..something that doesn't take away from the rhinestones..but just has the silhouettes skim the body? (btw is the dress too big for the manni or is it exactly right, just a loose silhouette..) .or something that would just sit on the silhouette versus really cinching it..like a delicate belt that is the idea of a chain belt but not big like a mod one, but really really delicate, for just a tiny something at the waist.

those are my thoughts anyways....

and play up how it frames the face really beautifully..

I was also wondering what this would look like with a belt? The neckline itself is not really matronly, and the rhinestone bow is super!

If you don't have a belt to match, how about a length of velvet ribbon like
Chris suggested?

Chris, you had some great suggestions. And Sue, a belt would certainly help. But I am sick of trying to sell this dress. I don't feel like making a big production out of it. It's a size 14 1/2W, so it really is meant for a matron. By the way, I didn't use the word matronly in the listing. Ah well, maybe one more try with a belt. Thanks for your help.

That neckline treatment is gorgeous! Great idea to try giving the dress more shape - pinning or with a belt. Good luck!

Ellen, is that the printed size or is it what you are guesstimating based on measurements? A 14 is really not big, more like an average size (and looks more slender on a tall woman, and i have never heard of an 14W. i usually only see the W added for 18 and higher. but i am not the tag expert.

a half size is often a petite size if it is a size label.

I think this is one of those things that would be benefited by a regular manni or an actual person but then block the person out then with photoshop (if they are of an apropriate size) This does dip in just slightly at the waist so imagine on the right lady this would just look just right and i think the cut is very straight, but it might not be as dowdy as one thinks. we are just so used to finding tiny dresses. well..how can rhinestones be dowdy, right?

it would really play up a beautiful face/eyes if the woman would not want to accentuate anything else, because everything else would "disappear"
The shape of the neckline would also benefit a gal who was more top heavy as v necks..but not too deep...make them look more balanced than a jewel neck (which in most cases would make them more matronly looking).

Yes, Chris, the size is labelled 14 1/2 W. I thought the same as you do, that a plump woman would like the rhinestones at the neckline. But nobody wanted it. Its a good quality wool knit, very well made. I guess I'll have to "tramp" it up in order to get some interest. Those respectable older women apparently don't shop on ebay.

well...i would stay away from the "plump"concept....as 12/14 is more of an average size for ladies today...even though not for vintage items we find.
i am assuming it is more modern as it has a W after it...but still...

let us know what happens!

Oh boy! LOL...guess I better edit that! hmmm, actually had a smart
remark, but I'm editing that too! :D

Okay, I will. It will take me some time to work up the necessary energy to flog this thing again. I'm really sick of it.

can you park it in an ebay or mall store until the right person comes along? it's really unique and even if the dress does not suit every person, i bet there is someone out there that would really enjoy it.

the only other thing i can say other than tying it in with some modern trends is to sell the dress and play up and market it more as the rhinestone trim - but don't take it off let them do it - and see if anybody bites on re-imagining it. But i sure am not the one to have advice on that because i always think if there are no condition issues, that the original state is best.

anyone else? anyone?

Wow! I think the dress is fantastic especially with the rhinestone trim around the neckline. If it was smaller I'd snap it up right away. I am really surprised that it hasn't sold though usually black and rhinestone pretty much equal a good sale on e-Bay. Mind you at the minute the whole boho, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller thing seems to be all that is really selling well.
