May the Goth Be With You! Is this dress \"Goth\"?
Hello everyone! I have a question after having read the wonderful articles regarding "Goth" fashions. I have a dress that I'm ready to list on eBay but I'd like some assitance with the best way to describe it since I consider myself a "newbie" and I think that this dress might fit somewhere in the Goth style? It is Burgundy Velvet with these really funky lacey wrists. The original tag has been removed so I'm not sure of the designer nor of the era. I want to say 70's? I had my sister take some pics of me in it before we went out for trick or treat night (yes, I wore it while taking the kids around and had on these boots that KILLED my feet!). Since it was cold that night, I have a pair of jeans on underneath and I had some room to move, too, but you might see some bulk of the fabric in the waist/hips.
I dug out the photocopies I made of Vogue's Sewing Book so I could get the style right for my description - yes, I'm a bad girl but I can't afford the book!
So, as I use my photocopies, I would call this an empire waisted dress with a jewel neckline, A-line skirt and set in sleeves w/ lace ruffles at the cuff. Am I correct on that?
The lace cuffs snap together up the forearm to prevent tearing. The zipper is not metal (nylon?) and the bodice is lined in cotton and the skirt is not. There is also a faux tie in the back that merely snaps across the zipper.
At first I thought that it was a really nice handmade dress until I found the cut off original tag (must have been an itcher for the wearer!).
Anyhow, here are the pics....let me know if you all would like measurements or additional pics!!
Thanks again for the help! Patti
