MCM Furniture Gurus

Sharon, I'm swooning over this.... really! The gods of MCM, at least some of them, in one place. I want the furniture.... Thanks so much for posting this link! I'll have to send it to my DH, too!

Ooh, what a great article! I have a MCM theme livingroom and kitchen and I have 2 chairs similar to the orange and yellow ones in the top photo. They are surprisingly comfortable and supportive and the wood is stunning! I also have a stunning floating credenza in a tiki style, a Danish two tone long and low coffee table and the coolest Grundig console radio from the same era! There are also more scatterd pieces, a two tone desk and drop leaf kitchen table. I do so adore this furniture and if my place was bigger I would never stop collecting it!!

Our bedroom and my husband's office is Mission style because that is his favorite, so our house is an interesting mixture of eras.

I know what you mean Amber~

My husband and I and have mission style in the dining room, contemporary in the living room, and ugly 'well, we can afford THIS' style in the bedroom.

My office / work area, however, is an eclectic mix of interesting items I pick up on my excursions :clapping:

I would hate to think of how much of that stuff gets thrown out because it's "old". Crap, I just did think about it. :lalala:

Sharon, your office sounds FUN!

I definitely don't want to think of MCM in the trash!! In my neck of the woods I think most of it is saved as the people around here seem to know what they've got. There are also multiple stores in the area that specialize in MCM and vintage furiture and they get around and scour the area pretty good. Although it's probably true, I am just happy as a clam living in total and complete denial!!

I have been looking for an MCM dining room suite for over 2 years. A few months ago a friend of mine e-mailed me that there was one on our local Craigslist FOR FREE..... Well she didn't bother copying & pasting the link into her e-mail, and I searched & searched and couldn't find it. It was after 11 at night by the time I gave up, and I couldn't call her. When I talked to her the next morning, she told me where to find it, and I looked, and it was PERFECT for what I want--absolutely perfect. But of course by the time I got hold of the person getting rid of it, it was gone.... I am still pining over it.

But, I did get an MCM blonde mahogany step end table at an auction last summer for $2! Which is in my living room along with my traditional sofa, 1800's Victorian sofa, 1940's mahogany coffee table, and ornate TOC hat & umbrella stand. And, since my living & dining rooms are open to each other, you can spy my 1940's traditional mahogany dining room suite--along with my mid 1800's primitive pine cupboard and the 1970's fiberglass lamps sitting on a modern corner "TV stand turned holds everything" piece of furniture. The lamps are for resale, but I haven't had time to resell them....

My mom would have called it "eclectic." I call it a mess.

Great article! I love this style - and if I could ever afford anything like this, it would be my living room that it would fit in perfectly. I mean there's only modern furniture in there (safe for my 1970s sofa), but I have a lot of small 1950s/60s decorative things around here.
