meaning of c152 mark on cameo brooch?

Argggh I think this mark has something to do with gold content but I'm really not having any luck defining the mark's exact meaning; I've seen it used in descriptions of jewellery but nothing tells me what it means! Can anybody help please?

I would also be interested in what the front design is made from, as it's obviously translucent through the back (you can see the difference in shade just under her chin).

Sorry I don't have great focus on these pics, one of the back is to show the overall shape and clasp, the latter for the mark.

By that I meant it's not a gold content stamp but the model #. Though I've seen this on coins too... maybe it's the content of another metal not gold in the alloy mix?

Cyn is correct that the C152 is a design or style number. The British firm Sphinx uses them but I believe they are a letter and four digits. Fine gold jewelry would not be finished with that type of texture on the back. Your cameo is "costume" jewelry.

Other companies also marked piece with letters and numbers. It's possible the C is for cameo - but that's a guess.

Hi, I do not think it is a metal indicator stamp. I think it is manufacturer identification stamp.

Linn may know for sure. She offers jewelry and accessories.
