measuring shoes

I have searched the site, but to no avail...How would you recommend measuring shoes, especially when there is no size number on them? What have you found to be the most accurate way of measuring? Thanks!

The question I am most frequently asked when I sell shoes -- when I forget to put it in the measurements -- is for the *inside* measurement from toe to heel, along the inner sole. I also give the *inside* measurement from side to side at the widest part of the inner sole.

The next most important measurement is the heel height and the height of boots.

For good 'measure' I give the measurements along the bottom of the sole, from toe to heel and side to side at the widest part of the sole.

Hello!

Here is a guide for shoe conversion and it gives you the length in inches for shoes: http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes.html

Also check for faint printed stamps on the inside of the shoe or on the strap - there's usually something there - but even when there is a size stamp it's always best to give measurements as well.

The best way to measure is with a fiberglass measuring tape from tip of heel to toe making sure the measuring tape is laid flat along the surface. If 9.75 inches in length it's about a size 8, 10" a 9 and so on.

Measuring the width is done at the widest part of the sole at the bottom of a shoe. It will depend how the shoe is made, but you may need to add a bit, guesstimate, to the final measurement for overhang.

I'm an 8.5 B width and I usually put my foot in to see if the width fits me even on a smaller sized shoe as a test.

Perhaps experiment with a few pairs of your own shoes and compare it to the chart.

Good luck!

I was just wondering from the actual inches given in chart, do you think you have to add anything to find the true shoe size? I just thought going from a 9" for a size 5 to a 10" for size 9 seemed a small amount difference.
I do have a pair of shoes without a size inside and thanyou for this brill information.

hi, i have measured alot of shoes. Sometimes u can stick the cloth sewing tape inside other times u cant. Run it along the very top of sole as close to the toe to heel as possible. You can also put them up against a wall toe to heel. Just make sure u say in your listing how u did it. So they can do it the same way.

Hope that helps.
