Meet my new “Manni” - and some era questions.

I bit the bullet and bought a new mannequin similar to Ang’s, which I love. The arms slide and clip in, which makes her a whole lot easier to dress, but I quickly discovered I can’t move the arms around the way I can with my other one. That’s OK - she’s lighter and I’m happy.

So I had to try her out right away.

The only tag on the first dress is Saks Fifth Avenue... 60’s I assume. As I was cropping the photos I realized it is totally Mad Men. And what do you call those chiffon swags on the back? I actually have another similar Kay Selig dress with the same style.

The second outfit is Pendleton and I would have thought 60’s except for the shoulder pads. It is a vintage size 12 and I couldn’t quite get the skirt buttoned on the mannequin. Opinions?

Hi, Amanda, show us the Pendleton label - I'm getting a late 40s vibe. That first dress is gorgeous!! Not sure how to describe that other than cascading chiffon swags?

Hi Amanda, I personally can't help you but I believe I saw your same Pendleton Suit under the section, PUBLIC Sneak Previews titled:

Amanda, nice manni! Have you named her? I love that lace dress (and I think 60s as well--I'd say early); I just lost a similar one on eBay that I was bidding on... I've always called those thingies at the back "fly-away panels." I don't know if that is correct, but I've had dresses with similar panels in front, and that's what I've termed them....

I'm stumped by your Pendleton suit. I think older than 60s, but not sure how much older, although I don't know their tags. The shape of the jacket and the length of the skirt lead me to think late 50s. It wouldn't have been totally out of character to have had small shoulder pads then in a suit jacket. I have a jacket sewing pattern from the 50s that's similar. The collar is throwing me off, I think.

Hi - and thank you. Mary, I will "eBay them" but I have surgery scheduled for Friday and I'll be off my feet for a few days, so I thought I would wait until I know I can get around, so if I do a BIN I can send whatever I list right off.

I haven't named the new mannequin... Albina? My other is named Fay.

Great pose on your new manni, Amanda!

And that first dress is divine... Is the fabric underneath the lace a darker green (which it looks like in your photos) or a black? Very sophisticated colors... Like Anne, I call those chiffon drapes "fly-away panels" myself, and actually bought a dress described that way a couple of weeks back.

No help on the Pendleton, sorry...

And best wishes for a swift, successful surgery. Please do keep us posted on how you're doing!

I haven't seen a 50s Pendleton with a lot tag attached like that, although I agree the style of the jacket is quite retro.
Your new manni is quite elegant and the dress is gorgeous! I sometimes have called that treatment a faux or modified train.
