Hello :) Like the new forum layout!

I found this coat the other day and actually tried it on because I thought it was nice... it was huge on me but it seemed so well made that I bought it anyway. From what I can tell via research the union tag is 1939 and it was made by the Joseph and Feiss Co. (clothcraft label). I normally don't pay much attention to men's clothes but for some reason I thought this one was super dapper! I like the little buttons on the back near the bottom hem. Also it has a long strip inside with button holes on both sides with a little tab also, I haven't the faintest idea what this would be for? It's very heavy and the condition is pristine. (I sorta wish I had a boyfriend to dress up!) Ah well. :)

In any case, does anyone have any thoughts on this coat? Is it called a trenchcoat? I'm researching but not finding much unfortunately.

Thanks!

Hmmm my photos aren't uploading for some reason?

Are you adding them from your computer pictures files or a host? If it is the former, use the more options button under the reply box. That way you can preview before posting. Your photos are probably too big. Try to resize.

Thanks! I think they were a hair too big and I didn't notice the thumbnail/full image option.

Here is a (PDF) with a lot of info on the company.

This might help date your coat (along with the union label)

From the link

After World War II, the "Clothcraft" label was replaced by
a series of branded specialties, and in 1957 the company
purchased the Samuel Spitz Co. of Chicago, along with the name
"Cricketeer." Today it markets five major brands of tailored
clothing through department stores and specialty shops:
Cricketeer, Country Britches, Geoffrey Beene, Cricketeer
Tailored Woman, and Cricket Club .

So your coat probably dates somewhere between the late 30s to just after WWII

It's a trench coat - the tab that you show buttoned on the inside should button under the collar at the throat for really cold weather - check under the collar to see if there are two buttons there...

Oh! Yep - two buttons under the collar. Very cool, thanks!
