Hello everyone,

I collect vintage mens clothing from the late 1940s to mid 1950s and cannot, for the life of me, get my hands on some suits. I have two at the moment, a nice grey fleck one and a lightweight rayon Hart Schaffner and Marx.

I am looking for late 1940s early 1950s single breasted, 2 button suits (patch pocket ideally) in solid colors, particularly navy blue, gray and tan. Some fleck suits would be nice too, but nothing too crazy. Fabric either rayon gabardine or wool gabardine. 3 button suits okay too.

Measurement wise, I am a 36, but some 38s fit me as well. Best to go by these measurements:

17-17 1/2" shoulder seam to seam
20-21" across chest
30-31" length from collar seam to bottom of hem

My waist is a 32 and my outseam for vintage
trousers is 42 1/2. As long as I can alter the
trousers to these dimensions whilst keeping a
cuff, there should be no problem (i.e. a 34 waist
to a 32, or a 30 waist to a 32).

I appreciate if anyone can help me!

Can you offer tips on how to identify vintage suits from that time period? My men's clothing knowledge is extremely limited. I typically pass on dealing in vintage suits, despite the fact that there seem to be tons in my area, because of my inability to put a date on them.

I love vintage fashion. The grey fleck one and lightweight rayon Hart Schaffner from the vintage collection sounds great. I have to admit that nothing can beat the charm and elegance of vintage style of fashion for men. Cheers!!
