Men\'s 50\'s Mexican Pants & Shirt - HELP!

More stuff from the estate sale the red mexican skirt and the rubber girdle(?!) came from. The owner's children said these are from the 50's, which I don't dispute, and that they are guayabera pants and a shirt. They said that their parents went to Mexico and Guatemala on business back then, so they could be from either country.

HOWEVER, when I do research on guayabera shirts, I can't find any that look like this, with the coarser weave, hand-stitched figure accents and loop-closure for the top-collar button.

Even more so for the pants - I can't find ANY like this! I also am not sure if I have the tie-belt on correctly. They are completly hand-sewn.

SO, ANY help with accurate description (not so much date) and any other info would really help.

HELP!!

Sorry for all the images, but I didn't know what to show or not show.

Janine

As far as the shirt, I am leaning towards that it is guatamalan. That bird, i would say leans me more into that the shirt is guatamalan because that type of bird shows up in a log of folk arty type of things.

the close up of the fabric on the pants reminds me of a table cloth :) I don't know the name of the weave, but i think i saw something sort of kind of similar when i was in mexico quite a long time ago...maybe it is a weave that is regions specific. The pants i would say they remind me of palazzo style unless they have cropped legs. I love the high waisted look going with the sash belt. I don't know and can't say for sure whether they are mexican of guatemalan because i have never seen anything like em

If you put me up against the wall and made me pick, I'd say Guatemalan, but that's just instinct.

The pants are only 32" long, so they are really a cropped pant - or a really LONG pair of shorts!

I was looking for another category to list them in, besides vintage mens, but couldn't find any applicable ethnic category. Maybe in current men's too, for those wanting something different?

Janine

My family is from mexico and central america, nicaragua to be precise. I'd say Guatemalan is what you have. I think a woman would snatch those pants up in a second! I can see someone walking around in those pants with a pair of fun flip flops and a tank. cute!

Hmm, I listed them in two categories: vintage men's pants and current men's pants.

Other than vintage men's, I didn't know where to put them.

Janine

OK, I switched the categories to "women's" and said they can be for both. The men's shirt auction mentions the pants, so if a guy is interested, they can go look.

Hey Sandra, one question.

Are these pants actually called guayabera pants, or are they something else?? Same question for the shirt. I'm only calling them guayabera's because the people I got them from said so, and they could be wrong.

Thanks for the input!
