Men\'s Aquas... Coats - Timeline please?!

Good Morning All!

Two Men's Aquascutum.
Jacket (label showing)- I think is probably 70's or ??? - it's a very thick cordoroy with plastic buttons. It's a little small for my husband; so what do you think, sell as is or photograph on a hanger?
NOS Coat - suit coat is it a classic double-breasted design that is hard to date or is it 80's.

Ideas, please??

Thanks!!!

Deborah

Deborah, That first jacket is almost precisely like one my father wore in the 70s...maybe it is the same item. It was early 70s when he wore this. The second coat, agreed is hard to place. I can't say from when it dates.

I think the coat looks great on your husband, and the jacket is iffy. I think I'd show that on a hanger, no offense to your dashing model! One thing I've noticed in photographing is that you can make one area of the person/item appear slightly larger or smaller by where you position the camera. So, if you wanted to use your husband in the jacket, you could try taking the photo a little higher, making his shoulders appear the broadest dimension, and realigning proportions. I hope I'm saying that right...You might just try some angles and see how much different and possibly more flattering to the garment you can make the shot.

Thanks again, Maggie. You're so right, I do need to take the photos higher. I felt the bagello jacket I posted looked odd too.

The dashing model will not be offended (he really is dashing!), neither the - as you can see - very amature photographer!!!

Deborah, you would probably enjoy reading through a workshop we had last summer, presented by Connie, on photography. There is a lot of valuable info there: Photography workshop

I don't know anyone who wouldn't learn something from this!

I would use the back view of the jacket for the first one, definitely. It does look a little too small on the front view. This jacket would be slightly tapered at the belt. Just as an aside, In my experience, the smaller sized cord jackets go for a lot more than the big ones. and they go a lot to europe, so if you don't sell internationally......just do it...you usually won't be sorry. (oh and absolutely 70s)

On the second one...are there any other tags - union tags, tailor tags..anything? I would guess later 70s, but not as cutting edge...its more conservative. The back belt, the patch pockets in particular, and the way the collar notches makes me think so. I could be wrong, but that is my first impression. It could be early 80s if some of the elements caried over with the more generous arm holes if they didn't change their styes much,.

but that is just a guess.

You folks are amazing!!! Thanks for the tip, Maggie, I will DEFINATELY check it out.
And thank you, Chris. Yes, I agree the back is passable. Here's one more shot (side view) for your opinion on the jacket (before I get back into photo mode) and the pics of the label for the coat including cuff shot. Cuff shot is also much closer to coat in coloring than above pics.

The second jacket is a very late 70's-like 78-79 and possibly into the early 80's. of course this is just what i think.

Thanks, Linda! Thanks, Jamie! For now, I'll say late 70's, early 80's just to be on the safe side.

Hi Barry I believe that is an style or order or customer number because it is not on the date line, it doesn't match the british format of writing a date and that looks like a 1970's jacket to me.
