Men\'s Patent Leather Shoe - timeline please

These came with Dach's shoe inserts and when I took the inserts out it made a tiny tear on the shoe; so perhaps it is an indication that they are not very well made. Or perhaps, it's an indication that the shoe was made during the war and materials were scarce.

The labelling in the shoes are Henry Morgan & Co. Ltd. (now part of The Bay) and the Shoe Worker's Association Incorporated - established 1943 - Union Stamp No. 52.

Would any one have any information on this union and/or would you know the approximate timeline for the shoe.

thanks

Deborah

This style looks like something that could have been bought today...or years back. This style has not really changed a lot in a way that is perceptable to me. And shoe inserts with an adhesive can damage a shoe whether it is low or high end.
If the insole and sole is leather, than it is probably a shoe of decently reasonable quality. Sorry I can't say anything definitive on date.

I don't think though they are wartime, because I don't think a business would brag and put an established date on their items the very year that they opened. Usually they add that when they want to impress upon you longevity and a long history of quality and goodwill. But that's just my view. Someone might have a better answer

These classic oxfords really don't change much and its really hard to pinpoint a date. They are too thin soles and the toe is too almond shaped for the 1970s, but it could be1980s - into early 1990s. I believe Morgan's sold out to the Bay in the early 90s, so that puts an end date on them. They might also be late 1950s - early 1960s, but the sole is too thin for pre 1955 and the toe too elongated for pre 1957, so they aren't earlier than that and the toe would probably be a bit wider after 1967, so they are either c. 1957 - 1967 or 1980 - 1993ish. I suspect the latter date though.

Thanks for the comments Chris and Jonathan!
Perhaps, I'm using the wrong term when I say inserts - they're the wooden inserts that help keep the shape of the shoe. When I slipped one of them out, it made a tiny tear.
There's only one thing I'm sure of and that is the Morgan's logo predates early 60's (1st pic below). They were bought out by The Hudson's Bay Company in 1960 and somewhere around that time (give or take a few years) they changed their name from Henry Morgan & Co. Ltd. to Morgan (2nd pic). They did not run under The Hudson's Bay banner until 1972.
I'm putting a side photo of the shoe, Jonathan, in case that helps to pin it down more.

Again, many thanks!

Deborah

Oh, I haven't taken a picture of the heel, but there are the heads of tiny nails showing all round - if that helps.

Don't know a lot about men's shoes, but till you showed the side view, it was hard to say--shoes are, I think, often hard to date. But when I saw the side profile, I immediately thought of shoes from the early to mid 60s.... FWIW!
