Men\'s Purple Robe/Smoking Jacket

Hi folks,

I usually buy sweet, wearable women's vintage from many of your members, but I also have another life as a geeky costumer at SF/Fantasy conventions. I need a robe or jacket for a costume this summer!

For months I have been diligently searching ebay and haven't really come up with anything ideal. I have until August to find this, so I figure I have time to find the right one.

I need a swanky Men's purple robe or smoking jacket. It can be any shade of purple from mauve through lavender to midnight grape, but the main colour needs to be purple.

Silk or Rayon would be best, but I wouldn't turn down a velvet or very light wool. It needs to be worn in Atlanta in August, so nothing really hot.

I'd prefer a shorter length rather than a full length, but either would do. A cheesy tuxedo style jacket might fit the bill if it's in a 'boudoir' sort of fabric like velvet.

It's a costume, so condition can be less than perfect, but it should still present well, be odor-free and be able to take being worn dancing.

It's for me to wear, and being a size 4-6 woman, that means preferably small! My chest is 34-36". So long as it's not huge, I can probably swing it.

My budget is small - definitely under $100 and preferably way less than that :)

I figure there might be some very small size men's purple smoking jackets out there that you thought no one would ever want. Well, here I am ;)

I suspect you're looking for a kind of holy grail! I get a lot of requests for things like this and find them to be elusive - and the smallest size I've found a mens jacket is 36" and as smoking jackets are meant to be large and comfortable, I suspect you'd be best to get one custom made.

Good luck for your search. Have you tried ebay? Or perhaps wardrobe departments and costume hire places?

I try ebay frequently (have been for months!) and a few have come up close but nothing perfect. I found a good one once but they didn't ship to Canada. But enough close calls to give me hope! :)

36" would be totally fine - probably up to 42" would be alright.

I make costumes myself, and I could do this, but I'm feeling a bit lazy and hoping to score in a ready-made. And I have a couple vintage robes already that I love, so I wouldn't mind adding to the collection.

Thanks for the good wishes :)
