Men's vintage hats

Holiday Greetings!
Can anyone specify when branding on men's vintage hats went from being printed inside the hatband to being a label inside the hat? I've seen hats with the company printed their name on the hatband, and a lot of newer ones have labels instead of the printing inside the hat band.

Sunny,

Hi! That is a great question. It varied from company to company as to when that happened. Some of the better manufacturers still imprint on the interior sweatband. Some makers use imprints and labels together. Some makers print thier names on the tip of the lining (if the hat has a lining). Many of the newer importers use paper labels and I have only seen this since the 1990s. If you need specifics, you can try a visit to The Fedora Lounge as that site has some great resources and good knowledge base among the members. We do have a a gentleman member here who specializes in mens hats and maybe he will come along and help if he sees your post.

If you are trying to date a specific hat, we may be able to help if you post a photo.

If you tell me how old it is, I'm not learning anything.
The hat is a Harvard hat. Most Harvard hats I've seen have white labels and look newer than the one I have. Mine just has logo on the sweatband and no sign of there ever having been a label. Also, I've checked trademarkia, Bizpedia, Zibb and a few others and cannot find info on Harvard (on trademarkia, there are 40 pages of "Harvard"!!!)
Giving this question a boost in case the "Hat Guy" shows up!
