Men\'s vintage YSL suit -- help, please!

I LOVE this suit! It just seems so daper for some reason... and i think that's because I KNOW it's 70's with that collar, and yet it is so NOT what you think of when 70's comes to mind.

Anyway... I'm looking for a little help with this one. First, keywords would be an immense help. AND -- how do I go about sizing this? I know that men's suits are done differently, but I can't recall how the sizing goes. I think if it measures 42" across the chest it's a men's size 40?
I have a TON of men's suits to sell- so I'd better figure this out. I pick them up all the time and then never get around to listing them! Time to get off my behind!

Put 42 in the title. In the description state that it is the measurment of the suit and not the wearer. men's suits vary so much by cut and guys who buy vintage suits know how much room to leave for each type and they will search by measurement for the most part.. (or none at all depending.)

What's the material? I would definitely put pinstripe in the title. Put pocket flaps in the description somewhere. Also wide lapels.

Here's a close-up of the material. It does have a pin-striped effect from a distance... but the whole thing is... woven? with black crisscrossing over grey/white... and those brown stripes.

Oh... should I just stick with YSL in the title or attempt to spell it out? (Eek.. that's a lot of letters!)

Chris --

also... since ebay splits the eras up at 1976... would you say this was PRE or POST 76?

Guys DO search YSL. Do both if you have room.

Oh - i know the fabric you mean! Its a bear to describe! And the camera somehow pics up the pinstripes when in real life the pinstripes may or may not be as prominent because the human eye has more range in person. I do NOT know the name of it. Its not a plaid, its not "heathered", ...someone has got to know... It probably has 100 different browns, plus a few grays and blacks in it and reads "brown".

I did a Google image search for that... and it's close? Not sure... it doesn't appear as "nubby" as most of the pictures I'm seeing.

But I do wish I'd known that term when I listed that Valentino suit! We couldn't figure out WHAT it was... but it looked mighty similar to this one:

There are a couple images that DO look kind of like this suit. Of course... which ones are correctly named?

Actually... each color is very distinct (although I know the kind you're talking about, Chris! I have one of those around here, too!)... it's like they started with a base which (from what I can see of it) was white or light grey... then crisscrossed black over that both ways... and the weaved (wove?) in the brown pinstripes.

Argh. I just hope the buyers can SEE what it is from the pictures, even if I don't know how to describe it! LOL!

. If its what I am thinking, Kristine (to see if its the same fabric i am thinking of).....its much smoother to the touch than a tweed. It almost makes one think it has rayon in it or something. its not rough like a gabardine.

heh.. thanks, Chris.

It was a silly question, anyway... once I actually THOUGHT about it, I knew the answer.
My brain is just MUSH lately!

Thanks for everyone's help! ;)

We've found that most 70's suits were meant to be worn much more fitted than modern day suits. If it measures 42 - we call it a 40.

Many of the newer suits we deal with will be "looser" in the measurements - many of which that measure 44 are tagged a 40!

:) Good luck! YSL is a great label...

Thanks, DTM -
That makes sense.
This actually does look more fitted -- you can see in the pattern (up close) how it's darted for fit.
I'll bet this would look just smashing on the right fella.
Or even on the right gal!
