I had this sweet dress that someone had cut the bottom off and left it unhemmed. It's a wrap and other than the hem, it was in great condition.

I decided to pay someone to hem it, because it's a slippery, sheer fabric and I don't think I could have done a good job. When I got it back I checked out the hem and it looked great. Then today I hung it up to take pictures and ... what do you know ... an asymmetrical lopsided very short hem!

Whooooops!

Actually just a bit shorter and I'm seeing a wearable cute peplum top like Denisebrain did with her damaged dress.

Perhaps it was already uneven and she just hemmed it? If that was the case, she should have seen there was a problem and evened it up.

There seems to be a dearth of good skills these days - you do know it's a dressing gown, right?

The person (seamstress) was young - I have a feeling she just took what had been cut off and hemmed it without checking the length... This had no tags - I actually thought it might have been a Swirl dress. But yes, the collar is more like a dressing gown. It was cute and I'm not going to fool with it anymore - so if anyone wants it - just say the word. A gift from Vermont ....

I love it and would be happy to hem it up short and wear it like a top. What size is it more or less, Amanda?

I love it too! I hope you weren't offended by my comments.

I should add that my wardrobe contains many dressing gowns - I just find those wrap around styles so comfortable. My favourite dress is a 40s black floral dressing gown - I wore it to my brothers wedding and got lots of compliments. I now consider it my signature frock.

You're sure to find a good, happy home for it.

Maggie ! I would be delighted to send it your way. woo hoo - I would consider it an honor. The waist is 26 inches - Chest 36 - 38. I do hope you can use it. Send me a U2U with your address.

Nicole - I am absolutely not at all offended by your comments. You were right and I hadn't seen it as a dressing gown - but looking at the collar and sleeves now.... :duh:

I too have had favorite vintage dressing gowns that I wore as dresses. That wrap style is very flattering.
