Mildew - the best way to get rid of the stains

Some old tailcoats and dinner jackets (wool) have been got at by mildew. The clothes are all dry now but what's the best thing to do now? I can brush them down outside, but would dry cleaning get rid of the stains/spores do you think?

The oldest garment is dated 1913 .... would that be ok to be dry cleaned do you think?

Got quite a number affected and am thinking of asking dry cleaner if he can do a special deal for me but wanted to ask you if you'd had any experience, or is there another effective way to clean them?

Thanks for your help.... :)

Thanks Amanda - I've had a look and it's only mentioned in one sentence so not a huge amount of info there - just that 'it may help'. Will contact dry cleaners but would be good to know what other people may have done - or have they just chucked it in the bin?!

I encounter this frequently and find that the dry cleaner is the best alternative. You have to ensure you kill the spores and dry cleaning will take care of it. It generally gets rid of the marks left behind too. Make sure and point the spots out to your dry cleaner so they can pre-treat.
