I'm leaning towards late 70's to early 80's judging from the shoulder pads and plastic zipper.

It is 100% polyester and I'll try to snap a picture of the label to post soon.

Any date help or description help would be appreciated!

Midge - Love the Lemon Dress and such a perfect description. Hope the ladies can do wonders for me, too!

Hi Vicki,

I always find black really difficult to photograph. Without really close-up images, your frock looks like it has tiny pin-pleats running vertically down the bodice? So perhaps describe it as a Black, Turtle-Neck (polo-neck), Pin pleat, Mini Dress. It's very smart and would look great teamed with boots. Love the necklace you've chosen to go with :clapping:

Is it a knit/jersey? In which case I would put that in the title too. I do searches on 'vintage knit dress' myself so maybe I'm not the only one. And maybe LBD (Little Black Dress) if you have 3 characters spare.

it is a classy wearable dress. In the body of the description I would put something along the lines of: versatile, a wardrobe staple, you can dress it up or dress it down, it'll take you from office to dinner, day to evening.

It is 100% polyester and very crisp.

GoldenAge - Love the LBD description! Agreed that it is classy enough for the office and for the club! Thanks for that suggestion!

Louise - It is hard to photograph. It has a thicker pleating. I'll try to get something better.

Any suggestions on photographing would also be helpful! (Obviously I need help!! LOL )

Nicole - Label is on the way!

Thanks ladies!

Vicki

Lots of folks automatically think 80s when they see shoulder pads. What year was it that everything was black or black and white? Was that 92-93 or slightly later?

I would see if this is something figure hugging, or does this sort of hang or is it "figure skimming)? (i guess anything could be figure hugging if you wear it tight enough lol), but that is going to be the difference between this being "clubbing" and this being something that would be more conservative. In the early 90s, the long jacket with the nipped in waist and the shawl collar which was rather conservative would have been paired with a skirt that just skirted the bottom of the jacket and was longer by only a slight bit. I remember having jackets that were midthigh, and one that even went just 3" above my knee. I had a lot of miniskirts (which might be my whole point).from the time that were meant to be conservative to be worn with opaque hose. You would wear it with a high necklined top or a sweater set or a blazer and the leg show didn't seem very tarty when everything else was so buttoned up. In retrospect with all the black tailoredness, I probably looked like a rejected cast member of the Saturday Night Live "Sprockets' sketch rather than as chic as I thought lol. I had round John Lennon like sunglasses at the time as well so I guess it would have worked.

Warren Petites

Dry Clean Only on back

It is more figure flattering than boxy. 90's??

Patentleathershoes - OMG. My old photos are so funny now. LOL. And we thought we were cool!

The label looks like my Warren Petites labels from the mid to late 80s, but since I stopped wearing & buying nice work clothes in the early 90s for about 10 year, I don't know what their 90's label looked like.... And I think your very classy dress could be in that timeframe--late 80s or early 90s.

I always found my WP stuff to be very nice quality and wore like iron. I think I still have a few pieces that I hope to get back into some day! My favorite little black cocktail dresses of all time was a Warren Petite ruched & draped jersey number with rhinestone trim at waist. I paid a lot for it back then, and wore it all the time. Sold it a few years ago, and am sorry I did!

I wonder if a smaller necklace would give a better sense of the lines on the dress.

Great suggestion! I'll give some variety in my photos to show the day to night look. I'll try a shorter necklace for a day look... I wish I had a model. This would look so cool with knee high boots! LOL.

Does anyone work with an online model finder? Maybe I'll start a seperate threat on models.... My brains a ticking!

I think it's '90's. I don't think that size 2 (and smaller) were introduced until the '90's but maybe I'm wrong about that. Anyone know for sure?

Linn

Thanks Linn. I was hoping someone would confirm your size 2 statement from earlier.

Does anyone know if it was late 80's or 90's when size 2 was introduced? That'll be something I can reference in the future.

Thanks again!

Vicki

I don't know exactly how we are going to confirm this - maybe someone has some old ads or magazines. I wore a 4 in the mid-late '80's and was pretty small at the time. (I was a runner back then!) The first time I saw a size 2 was in the '90's at Ann Taylor.

Thanks ladies for all your help!

I try not only to collect information on each piece but general information that will help in the future!

Linn (and ladies) - You are amazing and thank you so much for taking the time to "teach" the next generation of vintage lovers!
