I love the dresses worn by Minton Sparks ( fascinating onstage storyteller). Her dresses have a timeless quality to them, and combine the 40's and 50's. Some are belted. They remind me of the depression, Peggy Sue, and " Aunt Mary" style. I guess they are describe as "day dresses" or house dresses.

I think of a housedress as a slightly baggier "duster" type that my mother, and G.mom wore, but some of the "house" dresses in old ads were form fitting, and women buffed the floors wearing high heels (at least for the ads in 50's magazines).

Many of the dresses were fairly stiff cottons, but I am hunting for the ones that were like a semi - see thru voile ? Some buttoned all the way down, had pockets, and neat buttons. I want to call these rockabilly, or shirtwaist style, but maybe I will call them "down home sexy". Is there an official name for this style ?
