Minx Modes Label - Ever Heard of it?

Hi everyone! While I was treasure hunting today I came across the sweetest bright red dress. I'm still new to this but I know that this one is probably older. It has a metal zipper set into the side, pleating above the bust and pleating the entire way around the waist. A crinoline underneath will really give it some "OOMPH"!

The tag reads "Minx Modes" - how cool is that?

Has anyone ever heard of this maker?

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow. I'm not getting good light right now and I need to find somewhere to hang it so you can see the whole thing!!

Thanks! Patti

Hi Patti -

"Minx Modes" sounds very familiar--- I think. Or maybe it's such a great name for a 50's label that I just <i>think</i> that surely I've heard of it :) Anyway the dress sounds great - looking forward to seeing it. Be sure to take a picture of the label!

:)

Let's see if I can do the graphics right.

Here's the tag:

The trim at the shoulder:

A weird shot of the "flare" of the skirt:

And the bodice:

Then I got another one that actually FITS ME!!! Woo HOO! I was attracted to the buttons:

I can't get a good shot of the whole thing until tomorrow so here's the bow at the waist seam:

I hope all of those worked!!

Please let me know what you think from what you can see. I really appreciate feedback and advice!

Sorry about that!!!

Patti, I have had a couple of Minx Modes dresses over the past several years - all have been wonderfully constructed with neat details. I'll see if I can find the info I had (which was pretty meager) on this label.

Sue, I thank you for ANY information you can get for me....I'm such a newbie and I feel sort of idiotic at times ('specially since I'm a tomboy with these secret desires to wear fancy things! LOL)

Man, that's even funnier when I repeat it to myself! LOL

Anyhow, I love to learn about things that I like so whatever you can dig up for me is going to make me happy!

I'm pretty sure Minx Modes was a St. Louis company, one of those that started in the v. late 30s or early 40s and carried on into the 50s.

I'm now trying to remember where I found that info, and the coffee isn't helping my brain recover it....

They seem to have specialised, like a few of those local firms, in the young fashions - hence the 'ooomph!'

I search under the brand on ebay every now and then, and bring up a handful up for sale which are always worth looking at.

I find a fair amount of Minx Modes here in the Northwest and I agree, every single one I have owned has been absolutely darling and very well made for a lower to mid level line. Most definately designed for the young or "young in mind" with well placed bows, fitted bodices and an overall flirty appeal. I actually put Minx Modes in my titles as I have found some of the same people have bought my MM dresses.
I am sorry I do not have specifics on the label itself but they always seem to sell themselves.

Good luck, its a great find!

If you ever get stuck you can always type

< img src = your url >

Just take out the space before "img" and after "url" and after "="

Those are really cute dresses!
