That's a lotta look there, scrumptous and I even like those shoes with the peep toes, weird since normally I think runway shoes are ridonkulos and ugly.

I hate the shoes, everything else is lovely...except for the fact that there are "formal" coullotes. Fresh take on the Channel look.

and WTH? is up with the crazy hair?

i couldnt see the chanel clothes at the first pass because I was infatuated with the minnie mouse hair. I did like some of it though. I dunno about the coullotes (sp?)

Love the jackets from Dior. Actually, even though a lot of the Dior show seemed like I have seen it before--still really nice. I do love the jackets with the nipped waist and ruffly butt peplums.

hahahaha

and the Dior makeup is pretty scary...

those purple bordello shorts or skirt from dior--good god, that is bad. Looks like galliano raided Ms Kittys whore house from Gunsmoke for fashion ideas.

**Must note...I love galliano, so will give him a pass on the bordello curtain skirt.

Can't say I am a fan of either collection. Dior looks like Theirry Mugler and Vivienne Westwood got together in 1995 to make that collection. Galliano's clothes are just pure theatre now -- he has led the way in making couture irrelevant to today's woman and market. As for the Chanel collection - it makes the 00 size models look fat, so you know it isn't going to work on anyone larger. It also looks a little sloppy and unfinished - more project runway than Coco Chanel. Karl made an evening cape out of fabric YO-YO's for CHrist sake! That would be clever if the evening cloak was $800, but its Chanel so it will be more like $8000.

Some of the Chanel dresses are terrible shapes - egg like and unflattering. The green is awful. Some of the tulle ones are a mess.

Others are indeed lovely. But you can keep the shorts.

Dior - some are beatuiful, but not new and so over the top as to be irrelevant. Even the grand gowns - some of those are so blown up out of proportion as to be unwearable.

Julie-

Thanks for posting this. I like some of the Dior and the first 5-6 Chanel. The trick is to look ONLY at the clothes and ignore the hair, makeup, accessories and "attitude." I think some of the Dior is quite lovely if you are able to separate the outfits from the presentation. Both shows are so over the top and theatrical that the clothes look like costumes and the models for the most part look like they are on stage "en masques" ! But the lines of some of the Dior suits and gowns and the Chanel short's-suits are rather nice. I actually like the petal gown and the dark red gown but I could lose those bows!

Weren't most of those Dior pieces from the set of Moulin Rouge?

The Chanel stuff would look nice if presented seriously. That hair and the shiny tights just make me think they're playing a joke on us.

Catwalk is always theatrical and I love the colour and elegance of the Dior show - although of course, very few of them are wearable. Many could be made so without too much work - and they're very glamourous, always a vote winner in my book.

As for Chanel - I had the same experience with the hair when I first saw them. Just couldn't look past it, which is perhaps as well because the dresses are frumpy and unflattering and could do a '60s nod so much better.

I love the blue of this bodice: Dior gown. Thanks for posting the links Julie!

The best thing I got out of the Chanel show was this:

:horny:

I absolutely Love the Dior Tophats. I need one of those.

And those "Moulin Rouge" ensembles? Loved those, too.

The Chanel show made me feel nautious...The dresses were not very flattering or inventive....
The Dior I hope they were beng sarcastic when it can to the hair.... it was OK.....
Gaultier was only OK too....

Okayyy... my honest opinion...

Chanel - doesn't throw me off the rocker. Some of those suits and little dresses at the beginning are cute, but I don't like the culottes, there's a better way to do this look. Generally, pastels aren't so much my thing, and in whole it all is too pastel-y for me. Plus, I can't get rid of the feeling whenever I look at a new Chanel collection, that Lagerfeld is getting repetitive :BAGUSE: . Kinda boring. And the hair and the tights are just ugly.

Dior - don't like the first bit (all the "equestrian" and that lacy-pastel-y stuff), but I like those cocktail and evening dresses - and those strong colors (and combinations of colors) he's used for them. That's my thing. This is my fave color combination (just the top and the skirt, forget the gloves): http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FW86_jO7k...ristian+Dior+Haute+Couture+Spring+2010+22.jpg. And opposed to Chanel, here I even like the most of the pastel colored gowns.

But when we talk about drama - an dramatic dresses, my all-time favorite remains Christian Lacroix. That's my kinda drama .

It's so interesting how we all have such a different take on this. I like the Chanel nod to the '60's and I like the culotte suits but I think the rest is horrible. In the Dior I really like some of the equestian pieces - saw some '40's nods, but didn't like most of the lacy cocktail dresses. I think this gown is gorgous although I would like a much smaller bow on mine, please!
