Mod Dress from the 70s?

Well here I am again. I swear I am posting way more than those about which I am asking questions. Just trying to actually get my Spring line up before Spring this year and on some pieces, I just get stuck!

So this dress; I was just about to post this 60s mod shift dress, when I noticed the Union Label is red white & blue indicating at least 74. I imagine some of the 60s styles carried over to the 70s, but then is it considered Mod? It is an intricate polyester Knit, with half moon metal details & a tie belt

. The label is too faded to read beyond Machine Wash. Nylon ALI zip.

I'm happy to share the Union Label pic if requested, I just have not uploaded it yet. It is the typical red, white & blue ILGWU AFL/CIO.

Can I say 70s mod "working girls" shift dress?

Man, after an 10 hour work day and posting 13 items in two days, I think my brain is melting.

Hi Eli,

Looks pretty '60s to me, although I think it would be worn unbelted. Oh, I see the belt is included! In that case, perhaps it is '70s, it looks rather like a uniform.

If you can show label pics, that will help as they can be very useful in identifying pre and post '74.

If it is post '74, I'd be surprised if it was very far off that date.

I only have the Union Label, the care tag is faded beyond recognition and that's all I have. It is def Stewardessy but I don't think it is a uniform, with the metal embellishments and all

Hi Eli, I agree that a lot of styles from the 1960s, passed over to the early 1970s. Your dress is a great example. Those colours are most definitely 70s. You look good in it too! :-)

Well as usual. Thank you again. Oh but it is not me in the dress, one of my models *smile*. She is adorable huh?

You will likely see me again today at some point.

I'm in total agreement with Louise! I worked in a Singer store 1974 thru 1975, and saw a lot of fabric like what your dress is made of. Also made most of my own clothing during the 70s, and I'd say your dress dates from '74 to no later than '75 or '76. Is there a maker's tag in it? Some manufacturers lagged behind the trends, and you'll see styles from them that looks as if they "should be" earlier, but aren't. But the length of yours suggests post '60s, too.

Cool... that is good to know since I have a few similar to this. I need to pull them out at look at their Union Labels as well. The manufacturer label is missing :( That is why I was struggling with the post 74 Union Tag; in my mind I had already decided it was 60s.

Thanks so much everyone.

Like I mentioned before, I am bound to be back today. Posting items like a made woman!
