Mod Dress - is it vintage or repro?

I'm pretty sure this is from the 70's but it could just be a retro re-make. It feels like heavy cotton, with a lace-up front, big pointy collar, patch pockets, and buttoned cuffs. The label says "Design House" and "M Made in Japan".

I can wear it, but it's a little snug and the sleeves are short. That's what makes me wonder if it's contemporary. I usually wear a size Large , and this fits me like a Medium, but a Medium from the 1970's should be way too small for me, right?

It really does look like the real thing, but I don't like that label -- the pink embroidered 'desgin HOUSE' on the striped ground and long in shape doesn't look right to me. I would expect a woven or printed label, not embroidered, and oblong. I would also expect to see a label that said something like 'Young Missy juniors' or 'Sassy Pants' -- something more '70s' sounding. Design House is too current a phrase. I think its repro retro, but its a good one!

Also, ideally, I would expect dark brown or white cuff buttons, or pearlized orbs, not regular men's shirt buttons. I would prefer it if the collar was a teensy bit more pointed and the grommets a bit larger, and painted brown or white. There isn't anything wrong with the way they are, but it just isn't quite the 70s styling I would expect to see with that busy print.

That's a hard one - there are many style elements of the late 60s and early 70s and the fact that they're all together in the one dress suggests to me that it is more modern - but I can't be sure.

The construction looks to be more modern too, so I'm going to sway that way but it's hard to be sure. I'm not familiar with the label and google wasn't able to enlighten me. Are there any other labels? Eg, care label, fabric label.....does it look like it's been worn? It looks unworn to me.

I think it's the collar that's throwing me: it's big but not quite right for '70s. It looks more like a 50s mens style, but larger. I think this is a modern (post 90) dress that's heavily influenced by 60-70s styles.

Thanks for your comments!

There are no other tags. I think it's been washed, because there's slight darkening around the bottom hem and the cuffs, as if it was allowed to drip-dry and some of the dye pooled there.

I concur, its a cusper 69-71 style dress, but the MADE in JApan, go figure, never had that then not in UK....ITs what the 90's would have thought of as a MOD dress, but a uk MOD girl wouldn't wear pattern like that not a true MOD the shape and the style..so l think that someones on the bandwagon, all the stitching too and button dont match up...
