More on Townley Coat...is there anyway that Claire designed this?

Hello All - I received the Townley coat that I purchased and posted about last week and love it so much! I also have a few questions and am hoping the experts here can help me out :)

I found a tag inside that says "Townley Registration" and lists a number: 1-1649-116268-51, and was wondering if the last two digits are the year of production?

Also - looking at the skirt and sleeve detail, my uneducated eye is thinking that it's very similar to what I've seen of Claire McCardell's work. Could this coat have been designed by her before she had her name on the label? Or do you think that the details are more reflective of coats in this time period?

Would appreciate any ideas or opinions....and here's some photos :)
Thanks
Lisa

it's gorgeous. 1951 looks right to me.

claire had it in her contract with townley in 1940 that her name was to appear on the label. so pretty much throughout the 40s (assuming it took even a year for that to happen) her name was on the townley label.

I've no fact to add - but this is one gorgeous coat! I wouldn't be able to wait for colder weather either. I have just bought myself a cute little vintage winter coat on Etsy (no big name on it though) and I can't wait for it to arrive - and then probably I won't be able to wait til I can wear it either :bouncy: .

There was a Townley Coat and Suit company that was completely different from Townley Frocks. I've seen ads for both, and the addresses listed in old ads are not the same.
