I was hoping for some help please on the material for this lovely brooch and necklace which I believe are Victorian and so far my best guess is Whitby jet. I've bought before from this lovely couple clearing out his mum's estate - they are in their 60s I reckon and mum definitely held on to a lot of her parents' things as well as clearly being an antique lover.
The card reads mourning brooch and necklet and seems to have been part of a 1966 exhibition, perhaps sold there?
Anyway both are a bit lighter than they look, feel warm to the touch and the brooch certainly looks actually carved with is insane given the detail! Could they be Whitby jet? I don't have any raw porcelain to test it on! I don't believe they are glass - I well know the touch of cold glass.
I tried a hot water test but I am rubbish on smells! Best I can do is smells old/peaty - could be because it needs a wash! All I can say for definite is it's definitely not Bakelite.
Thanks very much for your help.
