Movie review....Iron Man

OK, maybe it's my inner geek showing, but I love a superhero action movie...and Iron Man fit the bill perfectly. It's really one to go to the theater to see, to take in the effects and the sound properly. I do a lot of rentals, but save the DVD for the comedies and dramas-this one's best suited for big viewing.

Having grown up in the 80s, I have watched several Robert Downy Jr movies, and I have to say it's great to see him back on screen and CLEAN! He's lookin' mighty fine in this one, and his roughened edges and new mature handsomeness contribute nicely.

I enjoyed the backstory, the setup, which explains what brought him to become Iron Man. Once Iron Man makes his appearance, the effects really kick in, as does some much needed comic relief both through RDJ's wit and interplay with the technology that is his biggest asset.

I wouldn't take anyone less than a mature 10 yr old, since there are some rough scenes dealing with the Taliban, war, and weaponry, plus a bit of intoxication on the part of the pre-Iron Man RDJ. I don't recall a dirty word, nor were there any overly racy scenes (just one quick smooching scene).

All in all, though, it was fun, interesting, funny and well paced. I know I'll watch it again, and look forward to the rumored sequels.

I'm also happy to see director John Favreau venturing into bigger movies, although I hope he doesn't quit making the smarter, lower budget stuff.

Oh, and if you do go see it, stay until after the credits are done for an extra scene.

my son (13) has seen it twice this week....the only thing that makes me interested in Robert downey jr..as he has such presence as an actor...and has managed to save himself from near self anilhilation..

he is quirky and l thought an odd choice but Stan Lee, said he was perfect, as written couldnt be better...

l'm looking forward to SATC movie, Mama mia, The Time travellers wife, well cast l thought!! and the Lovely bones.....and Australia by Baz Lehrmann...even better if its a musical!!!!

l recently saw 'La vie en rose' and 'The fountain' and 'the PAinted veil'..all three fabulous if anyone is interested...l can elaborate!

Hot, the word is hot.
and the older he gets, the better he gets.

As much as I was jazzed to see Iron Man (I'll admit I'm a geek) I let the men in the house go alone for some guy bonding time. My son was like "best comic book movie evah" and my husband who normally hates movie made from comics/graphic novels really enjoyed it too.
Since Josh wants to see it again I'm gonna grab a matinee sometime this week.

I saw it with my 10yr old girl yesterday. It was great fun from a comic book perspective and RDJ is always a hoot. But as a mom I had to apologize a few times to my girl for the cringe-worthy misogynistic moments (strip-dancing flight attendants, one-night-stand evictions.) It's a total dude movie. But I was still laughing out loud in many parts. It doesn't take itself too seriously.
Missed the extra scene, darn it!
