My mum's legs

My mum\'s legs

In the late 1960's my mum was a model (sadly although I inherited her height, my sis got her dress size!) and one thing she did was pose for stocking packs!

SO I'm looking for a pack that has her legs on it :) She used to have a pack but when she tried to get back into modeling during the late 1970's, she sent it off to the modeling agency and never got it back.

She said that that the pack she had was for a late 1960's pair of pantihose. She said that for the photo she had to hang from a rope and point her feet down so it looked like her legs were dangling. My mum said that she wore a red blouse for the shoot and that on the pack she had, you could just see the edge of her red blouse tucked inside the top of the pantiehose.
She said that the pack had large colored dots either in back of her legs or over her legs (sounds like the were added after the photo was taken).

She doesn't remember what brand they were for but if anyone has anything that sounds like what I described, then if you could send me a scan and then I can print it out and send it to her and she can say whether it's her or not. I'd love to have a vintage pack of pantihose with my mum on it! :)

I forgot to mention that the photo of my mum was taken in Montreal but I should imagine that the pantihose were sold all over the US and Canada. If any UK'ers find a pair that sound familiar though, please let me know as someone may have imported them over here.

What a great story! I'm in Montreal and I will definately be on the look for it during my future shopping sprees.

Good luck!!!

Hey Lei, I'm from Point St. Charles - home of no future Casino!!!

Deborah

No Way Deborah! I was born in Point St Charles and lived there until I was 5 when my mum decided to move to NDG in 1980! We lived in a old Victorian red brick 2 story house which is at the corner of Wellington & Bourgeois street. My grandparents still lived there until about 1987, now it's a rooming house. It was haunted too!!

You can see our house in this 1911 postcard. It's the last red house (beside the grey stone house) at the right end of the postcard with the two windows at the top and the shop front (two guys are standing in front of it).

Where are you in the Point? And why the heck are they building a casino there? Isn't the Montreal Casino near La Ronde enough?

Lei

How cool that you have that post card. Much has changed since then!!! I'm right around the corner. My dad was born and raised in the Point, but I moved here from NDG in 1990. And I love it! They were planning on moving the casino with a Cirque de Soleil venue to the Peel Basin. But many Pointers petitioned and fought against the move. The latest news, a few weeks ago, is that they've dropped the project.

If you ever do a walk down memory lane, send a U2U and we'll do tea!

I'll keep a look out for you in the UK too:roll:

I like to collect old hosiery packets (but I've only got about four so far lol!)

This story is also of interest to me as I am a part time model:info:

Lei, I check for you each time I'm shopping.

I just "know" I've seen that packaging before, so it's my mission to find it again. :)

Cool! Thanks guys for checking for me! I always check when I hit a pile of old hosiery but so far, no luck.

LOL, yup - that was me!! Sheesh, that was filmed ages ago- summer 2001 as Jake was still a new baby and I still had all my pregnancy fat on me :D It was SO HOT the day they filmed that but we still had to wear the polar fleece jackets, my hair frizzed up from the humidity.

I liked everything I bought but I think I was still buying with a North American mentality as everything that I got, would have sold for alot more had I been selling it in Canada. There wasn't much vintage clothing at the fair either- there was a stall that had some Victorian dresses but they were all £100 or more and badly damaged.
The stained glass wasn't my choice (although I did like it, the glass looked much better in person than on TV) as I found it was too expensive but we were pushed for time and our expert had already wrangled a deal with the seller for it. He wouldn't let me bargain down for it either and I know I could have gotten it cheaper.

Oh, that is so cool, Lei. I was sitting there this morning watching it because my son had told me about the show yesterday and thought I would enjoy it. AND THERE YOU WERE!! I knew that was you. I tried to go to the website and see if they had videos of old shows. Wish now I had taped it or at least snapped a picture of the TV.

Your hair was beautiful and a lovely shade of red.

I would have purchased exactly what you did. I loved that fireplace screen.

LOL, oh no- now everyone is going to watch that episode!:BAGUSE:
My fav thing out of the three things was the little chair. I loved that chair so much. Contestants are allowed to bid for their own items at auction but you have to get someone else to bid for you so no one sees it. I could have bid on that chair but had no cash with me on the day as I hadn't known beforehand that you could do that!
