My Thrift Haul.

Hi everyone. I recently went to my local Value Village and struck gold. I'm left with many questions regarding dates.

I'm not entirely sure how old this dress is. I can't seem to find any information regarding the label itself and the union tag was used from 1964 ~ 1980s. I think it's from the early seventies but I'd like your educated answers too.


When I came across this top I was so excited. I cannot seem to find any care or fabric content labels. My guess was that it's linen.

Dress is early 1970s.

Blouse is early 1980s and looks like a cotton blend.

I will say that color of forest green was popular in the early 70s. I had one crepe dress and a poly tunic pantsuit in it! I was a young teenager, what can I say. The top is more 1980s in color effect to me.

Here's a start. The 70s - earth colors, browns, greens, golds, rusts. Patterns of all kinds. Polyesters. Not a lot of natural fibers in mid range clothing. That bodice on your dress is typical.

One way to get a quick sense is to search the pattern wiki for 1970s sewing patterns.

When I found the dress it had a sizeable amount of holes along the darts and waist. I sat down for about an hour and sewed it back together. Your answer was incredibly helpful. Thank you.
