well this is it..... after starting my collection... over 20 plus years ago....... and the stopping because i got married had kids etc........

and then starting again just over a year ago.....i have now officially turned my hobby into a business...

just registered with the taxman.....and just waiting for the keys to my unit.... for storage etc.....

as ebay is my main outlet at the moment.. i will be listing a lot more now....and i am looking into setting up a website....

but i am not that good on the old computer..... lol..... with the peeps that have got websites... did you do it yourself..... or did you pay someone to set it all up for you ?

as being real;istic i dont want to spend out a lot of money ..unless its on stock of coarse.......

any suggestions or tips... would be extremely gratefull....

oooo what the :censored2: have i let myself in for......:hysterical:

Luckily I do web design for a living. So I did the design, but I had a programmer back end it for me.... Set up the shopping cart ect..

The oughest thing is taking credit cards directly. Many people wont use paypla. I found that out in my first year. It can be costly to accept them yourself, but I shopped around and pleaded that I am a small guy and I got a break and pay the same as I would pay pay pal...

One of the keys to this job is keeping yourself on a tight ship. Keep your space organized, move in waves (instead of washing one thing, do several, etc.) and have defined on and off time. If you try to go full boar from wake to bedtime, you'll burn out faster than a cheap lightbulb.

Keep track of all expenses, note the areas of your home used for business only, keep receipts for laundry soap, pack supplies, computer/photo stuff.
Note all your mileage used for business trips, to the PO or buys, auctions or with individuals. Mark the dates and where you were going.

Your tax preparer will help you use all this info as deductions when it's time to pay taxes on your earnings.

thanks guys for the brilliant advice.....

i am allready selling on ebay ..( same user name as here )

i was thinking about setting up an ebay shop ..but in another forum....they were saying that ebay shops dont get the same pubicity as they used to......so a lot of people are shutting their ebay shops.....
so will have to take a closer look at that.....i used to be a dog beautician for over 20 years....but had to pack it in when my wrists just packed in... so hopefully be able to remember how to do my self assessment..... things...lol....

the only thing i am waiting for now is my waste management licence......

i was thinking of putting x amount of items on everyday....as not all my items will be retro/vintage...... they will be pre-owned/loved/used/secondhand......as where i will be sourcing my stock from there i will be taking the good with the bad..... and the fairly modern with the older stuff.......

as i say i was thinking of listing everyday..... so you think its better to list once a week ?.....thursday to finish on sunday ...

hatfeathers you got a VERY valid point......since i have been selling on ebay..... and locally.......i havent noticed it... but yes my time is totally....clothes/ebay and as i am in the house most of the time.... house chores etc seem to be put on hold.... if i start sorting /washing my stock.... and before i know it....its time to put food one......so i def... got to get some sort of time table/management in order.....
