Hi all,

I am wondering if there is a name to describe this type of decoration and the overall style of the shirt. I am sure it's from the 80s but I am having a hard time describing the embellished black area. It's not really embroidery. It looks like thin rope entwined with metallic/ lame thread which is then stitched to the fabric. The shirt is 100% silk. Also, it buttons all the way down in the back. Is there a special name for that style shirt, collar etc?

Thanks
Victoria

yours is not a mandarin collar. mandarin and Nehrus are often interchanged. yours is more of a mock turtle: yours has no opening in the front.

The length along a mandarin collar is straight, with either straight or rounded edges at top of the centre front. The edges of the collar either barely meet at the centre front or overlap slightly. Overlapping mandarin collars are often a continuation of a shirt's placket and have a button on the collar to secure the two sides of the shirt together.
