I love this little set.
however, there are no markings at all.
I *think* it's plastic, but not cheap - it feels fairly substantial.

Anyone recognize it? I am in love with it and trying to justify my $85 price tag :D

AND -- one more, please!

I have this lovely necklace. Blue glass (?) flowers with a silver metal frame. It's marked Trifari - with the little crown -and the clasp is on the side rather than in the back.
I have it marked at $120 and I thought that was probably kind of high, but truthfully that's how much money someone will have to give me to help with the separation pangs.

However - - I was just looking around online and found this:

Look at the 4th item down. Except for the color, that's my necklace.
I'm pretty sure she's insane with her pricing.
Right?

(although, now that I look at hers -- the flowers go all the way 'round. On mine there's one of those braided chains that goes along the back of 1/4 of the neck)

Your Trifari is C. 1940's - probably late '40's. The first set "might" be Coro Could you take a close-up of the backs and the end of the chain and the hook? It could also be several other makers but it sort of rings a bell. Think it is plastic - C. 1950's.

Kristine, i think your pricing is right in line. Gypsy Queen (or whatever the name was) does have some incredible inventory; but her prices seem on the high side, imho.

sigh. did you SEE that incredible Tosca tiara?? sigh.

good luck those are some cool pieces!!!

Sorry, Kristine -

A search through several books has come up "empty." I feel like I've seen this set somewhere before but I am afraid for now you will have to call it "unsigned."

Gypsy Queen's prices are in line with the dealers I used to sell costume to...if she has the buyers, bless her heart!

I think YOUR prices are more in line with today's market. And my feeling's always been if YOU love it, someone else will love it more. :headbang:

Hey Kristine,
I was looking through my Judith Miller's Costume Jewelry Collector's guide and I saw the bracelet that matches your necklace. It's clear however. According to this publishing date the bracelet is from 1950 and is worth $225-375! That's the bracelet alone.

I find that costume jewelry which are featured in books tend to fetch higher prices because people use them as guides of must have items. Just my opinion

I think it is true that people perceive that pieces that are in books have more value. Unfortunately there are mistakes in almost all the books and Judith Miller's book is no exception, not only in dating but pricing. One of the problems with the Miller book is that she borrowed pieces from dealers and used their dating and pricing. There are several mistakes in dating in the Trifari section of the Judith Miller book, including the bracelet. There are also some errors in content in other sections. When the book came out it was discussed pretty thoroughly on another list I am on. Beautiful photos but be sure to verify the information.

A lot of Trifari jewelry was patented so if you can find the patent, you can often date the piece exactly. I found the matching bracelet in amethyst for sale at N&N for $175.00. They are dating it to 1941, and are referencing a brooch that matches. I think they are correct. I thought it was late '40's but looking at the construction of your necklace more closely, I think it's earlier, and seeing the patent for (and) the brooch confirms this.
