Napier Bracelet ....Be prepared...lots of questions.

I picked up this bracelet today at an estate/garage sale. It is so pretty. The clasp is marked Napier. The baubles/charms (what would you call them?) are faceted glass in metal filigree thingees. Heavy textured chain. I rarely buy jewelry except to use to accessorize my clothes for shoots. #1 Is this 60's? #2 How would you describe it? #3 Ideas on listing price. Educate me jewerly gurus!!

hmmm

charm bracelets WERE big in the 60's but those filigree settings with the faceted baubles were actually more of a l a t e 1980's-very early 90's thing, as i remember. we sold them at Bebe's in HNL, about the same time as NBLeather and crystal set bustiers were in

I do remember a look similar to this in the 80s but something is telling me 60s. Maybe it's the colors or the clasp. I have had lots of necklaces from the 60s with faceted lucite beads and filligree accents. Plus when I think of Napier in the 80s I think more of a sleek classic look, not so much fun as this piece. This is just my gut reaction. I am no expert on costume jewelry.

I just looked at your site and see you price modestly. This bracelet is signed, unique and has the look of the day so go you might want to go higher than usual.

I'm afraid to give a specific price because I don't know the collectors value which might be higher what is in my mind. Having said that I am thinking in the $65-$75 range. I would do a little research first.

Pricing for others is tough because of the diversity of our venues.

Definitely 60s. Though Napier made chunky charm bracelets in the 50s and the 60s, the textured metal and filigree caps combo suggests early 60s to me.

According to Ann Pitman (who has a whole essay on Napier charm bracelets in her "Inside the Jewelry Box"), price has skyrocketed in the past couple of years, and the examples I've found in 3 different jewelry books all price them pretty high (between $100 and $200, depending on how much stuff is dangling, the novelty of the charms, and of course condition).

Apparently the elephant, Asian theme, and fruit ones are currently big with collectors, and your particular bracelet comes with the faceted beads made sometimes of Lucite and sometimes of glass).

So definitely don't undersell yours--it's both lovely and collectible!
