Some of you know Matthew, who lives in France and is a button fiend. He has made me aware of their variety and beauty as well and he alerted me to the 2010 National Button Convention which will be held this year Thursday, Aug. 5 in Manchester, NH.

It should be fascinating, as they have educational displays, dealers of course, and all kinds of themed trays entered for competitions.

Here is the tray Mathew sent for the “patterns” competition, “which are geometric forms and things like paisleys, hearts and fleur de lys.”

I would really love to go to this event.

Sounds wonderful. Hope you can figure out a way to drive over to NH for the event. (I just did an online calculation and it's a longer trip than I thought!)

Ooh these are lovely.

I love buttons, have just recently spent an afternoon sewing mine onto cards to sell at a fair. I don't have anything remotely as gorgeous as these though!

That one in the publicity photo of the geisha's in front of Mount Fuji is just wonderful. I really like the carved rose one in Matthew's patterns tray.
