Hi vintage lovers !

I'm Chloé from France, I own 2 vintage shops on Etsy and I would need help for this one !
I thrifted a beautiful 1950s skirt and when I washed it, I noticed that the lining was fully monogrammed with the CC Chanel logo...
The skirt has no tag, so I wonder if it is Chanel or if it could just be a homemade skirt with a Chanel fabric for the lining...
It is made of silk satin, with silk lining. It is hand finished, and the finishing does not look very "couture", that's what makes me doubt.
Any help / advice would be appreciated, just ask if you'd like additionnal pictures !
Thanks in advance

Chloé

Hi, as per the forum rules we cannot authenticate items posted online.
Quality linings can be reused in a new garment as it can save time and money.

If you would post photos of the seams and stitching we may be able to help determine if it is home made, ready to wear or couture level manufacture.

Hi,
Ok, sorry about that, mea culpa I did not read the rules oopsemoti
I'm joining a few pictures but it looks clearly homemade, so I don't think it is high fashion.
I'm not sure the fabric is a repurposed lining though, as it's quite a big piece of fabric and there are no signs showing it has been unstitched / re-sewn.
Do you know about high fashion houses selling their fabrics in some way back in these days ?
Thanks !
Chloé

I don't know for sure, but I don't think they would ever sell just the lining fabric like that. It would add to the risk of manufacturing of fakes.
The fabric could have come from a much larger garment, say a coat, which when re-cut and sewn into a skirt lining, may not show any of the original seams or stitch marks.

I have seen branded lining material in a totally different branded garment before though, complete with jacket label sewn back on top.

I do think this is a home made skirt and someone just re-used that lining fabric as it was a good match for the weight needed.
I do not think it is 50's btw. It looks 1980s to me.

Since the '80s, you've been able to buy designer logo lining from Asian countries like Indonesia, by the metre. I've actually learnt that a designer logo lining (with no other designer label signs) are usually clear signs that it's not authentic.

I agree with Melanie in that your skirt could be '80s. I don't see '50s, sorry.
