Need help dating a Dot Perkins dress!

I found this dress at an antique shop, and at first I thought it was quite old (it looks like some thing 30s to me), but then I noticed it has a Dot Perkins tag, which I assume is short for Dorothy Perkins? I'm not sure how far back that label goes, but if anyone does know, or has an idea of the age of this dress, I'd really appreciate it! It has a metal side zip and a missing belt, I think. Also: does anyone know why there's a gap between the buttons? There isn't a button loop missing, and as far as I can tell, it was made to look like that. To me it looks a bit like a button fell off, but maybe that was the fashion?

(I realize that I didn't get a picture of the label itself; if anyone wants to see it, I'd be happy to add it asap!)

Thank you!

Sorry for the delay--I was at a coffee shop and had to go home to get a pic of the tag! Here it is:

And the buttons appear to be plastic.
