Need help dating a handknit top (40s-60s?)

I'm having a super hard time dating this sweater top. I got it from an estate where the woman knit a large amount of her clothes, and most of the pieces were from the 40s-60s. I can't figure out what decade this is from though - if it's on the earlier side of those or as late as the 70s. It feels like a synthetic/rayon knit and has small tubular elastic in the neckline which I've attached a photo of. Thanks!

My impression is 1970s from the crochet style knitting and overall ribbed effect of the jumper. Also the fit which seems quite tight, and length which isn't long. It might well have been made using older techniques and yarn, given the source.

Thanks, Melanie! 70s was my first impression too, although I think you might be right and she made it from an older pattern.

It almost looks like crochet from what I can see. If you could post an up close picture of the work, I could potentially track down the exact pattern she used. I'm in a group on the internet that specialize in vintage patterns.
