Hi everyone,

I've never really had any furs. The one vintage fur coat I had I just gave to my aunt. My grandmother gave me these two to sell, and I just don't really know anything about furs. She said they're "oh just really old." I'm thinking pre-sixties? I saw that these seem plentiful on Etsy. Is this Rabbit fur? When are they from? What sort of flaws should I be on the lookout for as far as fur is concerned?

There are two, and she said they were possibly bought together. She didn't seem certain about anything, though.

Thanks everyone in advance!

The first looks like a 50s Mink fur cape. The 2nd looks like it could either be a late 50s or 60s Mink fur Stole. They both look Pastel in color. To check for flaws you should run your fingers through the fur all over to feel for splits, also lift the collar to check under there, feel at the seams, look throughout the entire furs for any uneven areas of color, look along the pocket edges, opening edges, collar edges and then throughout the rest of the fur for fur wear or fur loss. You also want to note whether the fur feels soft and if the garment feels flexible and folds easily. If the underside of either of the collars are satin and you are selling you want to make sure you note that. Lastly check for any lining issues; spotting, coming away at the seam edges, or any fraying.

Wow, thank you! Very helpful, and I'll make sure to do all of those things! The fur seems like its probably in good condition. They've been covered, and in her closet for many years. Thank you for all the help!
