Does anybody know what decade these type of rayon ribbon shawls really came from or when they were popular? I have seen people list them as 1920s all the way to 1970s. I am very confused.

I believe these are still being made, or at least were in the late 90s. My SIL purchased one for my MIL when she was
in Spain during the late 1990s. It was brand new, not vintage. The style has not changed a lot over the years although I
believe the composition of the ribbon has. Hopefully someone else will be by that has more info for you.

Hi Regan,

I had actually posted about this type of shawl awhile ago...I was told at the time that these were popular in the late 60s and early 70s.

To me this appears to be like a very fancy style of macrame ribbon work. Beautiful
workmanship.

The fabric is a silky ribbon with gold metallic threading throughout.

Perhaps you may also know where these were made? I am thinking it's from the 60s but honestly it has me stumped.

Hi- this is a ribbon shawl that is/was made in a small village in Colombia, though they could also be made in Spain. The fabric is rayon. I bought one there almost identical to this over 30 years ago, still have it. I believe they may still be sold there, as the women in the village made them, and were well known for them. Colombians took me on a journey to the village to buy one. Have seen them for sale in San Francisco years ago (1980's) for $250 and oddly there is currently one for sale on Etsy for exactly that today! The Etsy seller calls it a "wedding shawl" which indeed it could be used as cover-up over a wedding dress if chilly. Believe they are called papolones. I love mine!
