Hi Folks,

I'm newly registered here so please bear with me as I learn the posting ropes. :hiya:

I found a gorgeous Italian Wool cardigan jacket that I just love! But for the life of me, I can't find any info to help me accurately date it. The label says it was made exclusively for Gertz Long Island. I did find out that Gertz was a department store in NY from 1920s to 1980s, but that's all I seem to be able to find out.

Here are some pics: (Hope this works.) :help:

and finally: <img src=http://www.flickr.com/photos/cinderella_lollipop/4278933907/>

Can anyone offer some info?
Thank you!
Sandy

Hello and welcome to the forums! :)

In order to see your images here, you'll need to use an image host like 'Photobucket' or similar (I don't think this works with Flickr). :(

Upload your photos to Photobucket and get the direct link address. Use the 'Post Reply' button which you can see to the right (below) this message. You'll then see a little box decorated with an image of a mountain. Click on that and paste your direct link address (http://.........) in the box and that should do it.

Hope that explains it clearly but if not, I'm sure someone else can provide an better explanation. :)

Looking forward to viewing your new find. :)

Here you go.

I will venture a guess...60s, mid to late.

As for the photos. It does work from flickr. You need to right click on the actual photo, copy the url address, then as Louse said click on the insert photo icon with the mountains and paste the address there.

You were adding the page url...not the photo itself.

I shopped at the Gertz in Hicksville when I was a kid! (I grew up on Long Island, and that was one of the locations).

It was a good solid department store (roughly equivalent to Macy's as far as prices went), but after the Walt Whitman Mall opened in nearby Huntington in 1962 (with Macy's and Abraham & Straus as the anchor stores), it began to steadily lose business. The Walt Whitman Mall was ENCLOSED, you see (the first enclosed mall on LI!), so shopping there was an extremely novel and desirable experience--it was THE place to hang out if you were a teen.

By the early 70s, the Hicksville Gertz (and the "outdoor" mall it was in) had pretty much turned into a consumer ghost town...

I agree with late 60s on your pretty jacket!
