Need help dating this velvet dress please

Hello all

Bit stumped on this black velvet dress. Excuse the dark photos - black is always such a pain to photograph! It's either too dark or blown out... ugh. This has a side metal talon zipper, front pockets, shoulder straps, and a back waist strap. Both the shoulder straps and the waist strap are missing their hardware... not sure what to replace it with, either.

This doesn't look 50s to me - but the size metal zipper is throwing me off a bit.

Any suggestions?

Thanks all! I guess I haven't ever seen this silhouette in the 50s! Does this reflect early 50s before the fuller skirts were popular? Any thoughts on what hardware I should use to replace the missing snaps/buttons on the waist and shoulder straps? Was thinking maybe just hidden snaps at the waist, but that wouldn't work very well for the shoulders I don't think.
