Hi! I'm having a bit of trouble finding any info on the Little Nuggets brand. I was thinking the coat is 60's/70's made to order as there is no size label, and under the lining there looks like the item specifics but it's half missing. I saw a listing for one similar and the listing says theirs is 80's but I feel it's older than that? It's really irritating me that I can't find info on it as I really want to know now :duh2:

Childrenswear can be tricky to date because it often sways towards older, conservative styles so I go by the labels and construction.

The detailed labels give you lots of information, I can't read all of it but I remember that style of large paper, very informative label coming in during the '90s, so I'd expect that to be the earliest date. Then I looked up the CA number: Little Nuggets were registered in 1997 in Montreal, but I recall that a date was given to companies that started earlier so that isn't necessarily accurate? A more knowledgeable person can advise.

I'd start by reading and interpretting all the label information because there are a lot of clues there but I think you're likely looking at a garment manufactured in the last few decades.

1997 was when the records were digitized, so everyone got a 1997 number, unless the company requested the date to be altered. However, the CA number system started c. 1973 as did the fabric content requirement, so I would think mid 70s. It's very 'old fashioned' - not a look I think of for little boys beyond the mid 70s. I looked up the company and it appears in manufacturer directories from at least 1949, so it was around a while.

It sounds like you're on the right track! If the coat has no size label and the construction feels more '60s or '70s, it’s likely from that era. The missing specifics under the lining could also be a clue. It can be tricky to find exact info on older brands, but keep looking at any small details, they often help piece things together

Yeah whenever I look up CA numbers, it doesn't really help me because they are all registered in 1997. To me, the coat and tag looks very 50's/60's but the ones I saw listed they were calling theirs 70's....

I dressed my two little one's in these traditional winter coat sets for church-going in the early 2000s, this type of garment was still available new then. My son's little woolen coat had a matching cap and my daughter's had a bonnet! We got some looks, and their much older sister said they look like WW2 children, but I loved it. They were young enough not to care. :)
I agree with no earlier than 1970s on your coat. I don't think there'd be such extensive fabric content labeling much earlier...
