This was sold to me as being handpainted. Originally I was trying to determine who the people on it were. I have since learned that the people are Omar Khayyam and Saqi. Before I received it though when asking others to help identify the people I learned that the artwork was most likely dyed color block handprinting. After receiving it though I am left confused because the coloring feels like paint, there is blotting that looks like it might be from the point of a paint brush, and there are imperfections throughout. Can you please take a look at these photos and tell me what your thoughts are?

This is the entire dress. There are close ups below this pic.

These two photos show two different images of Omar and Saqi on the dress. I see scattering throughout the red like a brush tip dabbed the work and while it was intended to be the same I can see little differences between the two. More photos below these.

This pic shows a red smudge on one of the sleeves.

This one shows the artwork in the center of the top. I notice that this was two pieces crafted together. The top is a slightly differently color than the bottom and the top is inset where the fringed V shape is;

This next photo is the last photo and shows artwork at the top back of the dress and I see little uncolored spaces between the blue.

Thank you for looking. Please let me know what you think or know.

Its a classic hand wood block print, but the dyes could very well be hand painted in - they use the same method in painting china. It's colouring within the lines...

Hi Jonathan, Great, thank you. I will describe this then as being wood block print with handpainted coloring within the lines. The outline does look like a wood block handprint. It is the inside just as you explained that looks and feels like it was handpainted in.
