Hi! Wow what a cool place! Maybe someone can help me here, I realize this is all about finding ready made vintage and pricing etc, but I was trying to network through anyone out there to see if really large women ever really wore vintage dresses anyway. I have a client who is hoping I can create a bmaid dress for her but the pattern only goes up to size 22, bust=44. My client is a 57.5" women!

Thanks for any leads, tips, links, etc.
I DO realize this is a stretch!!:violins:

Actually we have quite a few members who sell vintage patterns. Someone should come along soon to help direct you.

Welcome!

I know I'm going to be making the pattern larger I guess I just need some mentoring so I do it correctly. I'm planning on making a muslin first, that's a given....and then?

Are you working with a vintage pattern or a modern pattern? If vintage, what is the original (current) size of the pattern?

Depending on when you need it, you could hire a grading service to size up the pattern for you.

Personally, I think you should consider what styles will suit your customer, discuss fabric etc and then find a pattern grader or a skilled dressmaker.

Resizing a vintage pattern to a size that much bigger will require a total change - it will be easier just to make the whole thing from scratch and that way you can take into account your lady's best and worst attributes and make the most of it. The fabric you choose will also dictate the style and size required. A skilled grader can use a vintage style as a starting point.

As far as vintage dresses for larger ladies go, absolutely they existed and I've found a few of them. They don't tend to be terribly attractive styles though, which is a pity.
