This is a really cute little box styled like a book. It opens up with a hinge. I believe it is Mexican silver. Any idea of the age or the intended use? I thought perhaps it was for keeping pills. It measures 1.5" long, 1" wide, and .5" deep.
my mother has a very similar one who somebody gave her for the holy Communion (47 years ago Italy more or less).....inside there is a rosary in mother of pearl..I tried to find but my mother forgot where she stored it.
It is marked 800 silver so it's not sterling...that much is for sure. May be Italian....I've had souvenir cameo brooches that were Italian marked 800 silver. Possibly a pillbox from the 50s-60s?? Could have had an inner liner.
I don't believe it is Mexican silver. They really didn't use the 800 mark. Pretty sure, as has been mentioned, that it is meant to hold a rosary. My husband has one in the same size, but his is a solid box rather than filigree like this one.
