Need help on this men\'s shirt~pls!

Hi all,

I've had this for a while and since it is out of my usual "comfort zone" I'm not sure how to best market it~

It has a self fabric collar, and came with one other white collar ( would it even be worn with a white collar?)

It was a mess when I found it and it cleaned up beautifully, the fabric is in amazing condition as well.

I'm thinking 30's~ your thoughts?

Yes, the shirt would have a detachable collar. These American shirts can be tricky to date but you have a good label and mark references so hopefully someone can close in on the period.

The Sear's catalogues are good reference. Here is a reference to similar woven shirts;

and a nice site for collars - I know there are quite a few good sites out there;

BTW I recommend the film 'There Will Be Blood' not just for the stunning performance from Daniel Day-Lewis but for the period setting and of course the shirts!

Vertugarde~ thanks for the links! I rarely get men's (or women's, for that matter) items from this era so I'm completely flying blind.

Thanks Mary Jane- I was shocked when I took this out of the soak I used and saw how fresh and bright the color was. It looks like it was loomed yesterday!

You are welcome Sharon. It is a lovely honest shirt. If it was mine I'd start a small collection. Those shirts were meant to go in and out of tubs so I'm not surprised it came out looking great!

Like many of the major cities in the US at the turn of the century women were employed as shirt-makers and Chicago was no exception. There's a lot of social and political history attached to the garment industry.

If you can't pin down the date then I think calling it early 20th century would be fair for these working men's shirts that didn't change too much in style over a few decades. Here are some real examples;
