Need help with a Northridge hat

Hi! I wondered if you could tell me anything about this style of hat. Am I correct in dating it to the 40s? Do you know what kind of feathers these might be? I assume it would need to be worn with a couple of hat pins. Does the point go directly in the center of the back of the head? Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi,

You have a great find! Yes the hat dates from the 1940s, possibly very late 1930s, my guess is probably from 1938-1943. Yes, the point goes in back the way you show it, and I think the hat is meant to be tilted up in the back, and tilted forward, atop a lady's hair. You could call it a "tilt" hat as that attracts lookers and buyers. The feathers look like curled goose feathers to me. Goose feathers may not sound glamorous, but they were very popular for hats, as the feathers had a natural gloss and the tips curled nicely. I adore Laddie Northridge, and it is not easy to find his earlier work. He died young, in the early 1950's (that date is just off the top of my head), a sad loss for millinery. I love your hat.
