Need Help With A Vintage Purse Please

Just need help dating this vintage purse. I'm guessing 40's or 50's? It's made of cloth and is 7 by 8 inches. Thanks!

looking at the dangly bit at the front of the clasp i'm thinking 30s 40s and it is very deco in style, but what sort of cloth is it made of? that would help with dating it exactly. the chain is not original, it would have been a much shorter neater linked chain when it was new.

Is it Faille?

I also thought 40s with that elongated shape and deco influences, but I wasn't sure if the attached coin purse was typical of that era.

yes the purse does throw me a bit, the only ribbed cloth that i can think of that was used for bags was grosgrain, can you get a close up picture. grosgrain bags were common to 40s and 50s, so it could be late 40s early 50s.

I bet it had a matching fabric handle originally, the chain looks like a watch/fob chain.

I agree with Melaniea bout the handle and Lorraine on the dating. I think it's late 1940's/ early 1950's and had a matching faille fabric handle like this one:

yes that looks the part doesn't it?

actually with the bag with metal chains, the metal rings that the chain is attached to are the wrong colour metal for the frame, they match the chain but not the frame so they must have been changed as well.

Wow that purse is beautiful. I agree- faille may be the fabric, and I would go late 30's to early 40's
